On October 18, 2016, a Los Angeles Superior Court denied a Petition for Writ of Mandate upholding the Long Beach Civil Service Commission’s decision which upheld the City Manager’s decision to terminate Officer John Gibbs due to his use of unreasonable force on a suspect. Officer Gibbs’ egregious conduct involved stepping on the back of an unarmed suspect who was lying prone on the ground.
The Superior Court case was litigated by Principal Deputy Gary J. Anderson.
