Long Beach, CA – Long Beach Animal Care Services (LBACS) has joined NBCUniversal Local’s 2023 Clear The Shelters national pet adoption and donation campaign, taking place through Aug. 31, 2023, holding adoption specials throughout the month and encouraging residents to get involved.
“Promoting responsible pet adoption and fostering opportunities is a great way to get the community involved in our efforts to support animal welfare in Long Beach,” said Mayor Rex Richardson. “We appreciate the opportunity to once again participate in NBCUniversal’s Clear The Shelter campaign, and we encourage those interested in adopting or fostering a pet to visit our Long Beach Animal Care Services.”
To encourage the responsible, mindful adoption of animals in need of a home, LBACS is offering $25 adoption specials for cats and dogs. Those interested in adopting can visit LBACS (7700 E. Spring St.) Wednesdays through Fridays, 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., and Saturdays and Sundays, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Potential adopters can also search for adoptable pets in the shelter by breed, gender and size and apply online. Residents can also get involved by making a monetary donation, fostering, volunteering, donating supplies and spreading the word about local adoptable animals on social media at Instagram, Facebook and Twitter.
“Embrace the power of compassion and change a life forever. Join us in Clear The Shelters' noble mission to find loving homes for our furry friends in need,” said Dr. Melanie Wagner, Acting Bureau Manager of Long Beach Animal Care Services. “Adopt, and together, we can make a significant difference in the lives of these vulnerable animals, ensuring they get the love and care they deserve. Let's unite as a community, and clear the shelters, one adoption at a time.”
This is the ninth consecutive year NBC and Telemundo-owned stations are partnering with affiliate stations, animal shelters and rescues to promote pet adoption and help raise funds to support animal welfare. Since its inception in 2015, Clear The Shelters has helped more than 860,000 pets find new homes. During the 2022 Clear The Shelters campaign, 204 animals were adopted from LBACS.
“We are proud that Clear The Shelters supports the many outstanding shelters and rescues in our communities that perform the vital work of caring for vulnerable animals, so we are very excited for the campaign’s return this August to help them find new homes for animals in need and raise more money to fund their efforts,” said Meredith McGinn, NBCUniversal Local’s Executive Vice President of Diginets and Original Production.

About Clear The Shelters
Clear The Shelters™ / Desocupar Los Albergues® is an annual, nationwide pet adoption campaign spearheaded by NBCUniversal Local, a division of NBCUniversal. Every year, NBCUniversal Local’s NBC and Telemundo-owned stations, plus affiliated stations, partner with animal shelters and rescues in their communities to host Clear The Shelters events. NBCUniversal Local’s Clear The Shelters campaign was inspired by a 2014 North Texas pet adoption event hosted by NBC 5 / KXAS and Telemundo 39 / KXTX and dozens of area shelters that resulted in the most adopted pets in one day for North Texas. Since 2015, NBCUniversal Local’s Clear The Shelters pet adoption campaign has resulted in more than 700,000 pets finding new homes.
