LBACS at the Bob Long Memorial Mutt Run

Release Date: 2023-02-02

It's surprising that an event like this has not already occurred in such a pet-friendly city.  The Inaugural Bob Long Memorial Mutt Run is an event that combines the two most effective antidotes for the pandemic blues--running and dogs.  Who can imagine the therapeutic power of combining them?

The Bob Long Memorial Mutt Run is an event organized by the Rotary Club of Signal Hill to celebrate the life of Bob Long, a long-time Rotarian and philanthropist who passed away in 2022.  Proceeds of the event will support the Long Beach Animal Care Services (70%) and the community fund of Signal Hill Rotary (30%).  The main purpose of the event is to get as many dogs adopted as possible from the shelter.  There will be an adoption wagon at the finish line.

Registration is open now for the February 18th event, and the race will take place along the pedestrian path at Belmont Shore.  Humans may walk or run with or without their dogs at their own pace, but all dogs must be leashed.  An optional costume contest will determine which Valentine-themed team is the most creative.  In lieu of a traditional race medal, a dog tag will be given to each human that says "I ran with my best friend."

Registration is limited to the first 250 humans.  Hurry before spaces run out.
