The Department of Technology Services (TSD) for the City of Long Beach is offering an exciting opportunity to anyone interested in kick-starting their career in the technology field.
The Technology Services Internship has been designed to recruit and develop talented individuals who have an interest in using their skills to assist the City’s technology operations. It’s a hands-on opportunity to roll up your sleeves and apply your knowledge to provide real-life solutions to customers.
This four-month internship will expose successful applicants to the fast-paced world of technology in a large municipal setting.

Current Internship Opportunities
Web Designer Intern – Intern will work with the City’s web support team to the design and develop new websites and participate in the administration of the City’s internet and intranet sites as well at the web servers. The intern will also be involved with maintaining the City’s social media sites (e.g., Facebook, Twitter, etc.). Requirements: College seniors or graduates with coursework or experience with web site design. Candidate should be proficient with HTML, XML, CSS, ASP, Photoshop and Dreamweaver. Experience with video conversions/distribution, Javascript, Flash, Illustrator, Internet Information Services (IIS), and Web Hosting/Administration/Analytics is a plus. Candidate must possess excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Applications Development Intern - Interns will work with professional applications developers in all stages of the applications development life cycle from requirements gathering to application deployment. Projects will include development of intranet and internet applications to support City operations. Requirements: College seniors or graduates with coursework or experience with the Microsoft .NET application development tools and relational database design. Candidate must possess excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Database Administration and ETL Developer Intern – Intern will be a member of the City’s data support group. They are responsible for the care and administration of the City’s Oracle and Microsoft SQL Sever databases. The intern may also work with Extract Transformation and Load (ETL) and Business Process Execution Language (BPEL) tools for bringing disparate data together as well as with the City’s Business Intelligence tools. Requirements: College seniors or graduates with coursework or experience with database administration, data warehousing, and data modeling. Knowledge of TSQL, PL/SQL, and BPEL are a plus. Candidate must possess excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Email Administration and Document Management Intern – Intern will be a member of the City’s Content and Collaboration group.The group supports the City’s Lotus Notes email, and Laserfiche document management systems. Requirements: College seniors with coursework or experience with server administration and network concepts.Experience with email or document management system administration is a plus, but is not required.Candidate must possess excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Business Analyst and Project Management Intern – Intern will be a member of the City’s Business Information Systems division. The group works with business users to create project management documentation, such as requirements documents, testing plans, and training documentation. The intern may also participate in documenting project management policies, procedures and templates. Requirements: College seniors or graduates with coursework or experience in information technology, proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel and Visio. Experience with Microsoft Sharepoint is a plus.
