ADA Program The Public Works Department is responsible for assisting in the effort to ensure ADA compliance for all City Facilities. The City of Long Beach does not discriminate on the basis of disability in employment or in admission to, access to, or operations of its programs, services, or activities. Dora Hogan, Equal Employment Opportunity/ADA Officer, has been designated to coordinate and carry out the City's compliance with the nondiscrimination requirements of Title IIA of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). Questions, concerns, complaints, or requests regarding accessibility for people with disabilities should be directed to Ms. Dora Jones, Equal Employment Opportunity/ADA Officer, or Mr. Linden Nishinaga, Senior Civil Engineer. In 1995 the City of Long Beach adopted a comprehensive Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA)-based Self-Evaluation and Transition Plan report. This report had surveyed and identified a multitude of Citywide facilities and infrastructure that required improvements in order that they comply with the federal ADA Act of 1990 and related State and local Title 24 and building code ordinances.Facilities and infrastructure identified by the ADA Transition Plan are located throughout the City and are within all City departments and districts. To date, the City’s ADA Compliance Officer and the Project Management Division of the Facilities Bureau undertook the facilities portion of the Transition Plan.During this timeframe Project Management has completed approximately 65% of facilities listed on the Transition Plan-based facilities master schedule.By FY-2007, 95% of all City ADA facilities identified have been addressed and/or completed. This past fiscal year 2007 Project Management Division continued to complete remaining ADA improvements projects. These have included Silverado Park Pool, Los Altos Library, Ruth Bach Library, Brewitt Library, and Alamitos Library. For more information on the City's ADA Program, please click here.
