The City of Long Beach is looking for volunteers to help conduct its Ninth Annual Bike Count this month. Participants can choose a time and location that are convenient for them.

The sessions are scheduled for:

  • Thursday, October 20, 7:00 am to 9:00 am
  • Thursday, October 20, 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm
  • Sunday, October 23, 12:00 pm to 2:00 pm

The City has experienced steady and dramatic increases in bicycle ridership alongside its investment in an expanding bikeways network. The 25 sites for the 2016 count are among areas identified for safety improvements, upcoming project routes, and sites that have been consistently counted in the past.

The bike counts help improve the safety and livability of the City by evaluating the effectiveness of projects, and providing supporting data for grant applications. With consistent data from year to year, the counts provide important metrics to the City regarding safety, capacity, ridership trends, and the value of our investments.
