Long Beach Development Services Director Amy Bodek today named Oscar Orci, former Director of Development Services for the City of Redlands, as Deputy Director for Long Beach Development Services. Mr. Orci’s appointment is effective today.
“Oscar has a proven leadership record, and incredible knowledge of current and long-range planning, building and safety, historic preservation, environmental review, grants administration, and code enforcement activities,” said Ms. Bodek. “His over 20 years of community development and municipal management experience will be a great asset to the Department and to the City.”
Prior to this appointment, Mr. Orci was responsible for overseeing the City of Redlands’ planning, building, permitting, and Successor Agency activities. He has also worked for the City of Banning, the City of La Quinta, and the City of Rolling Hills Estates, successfully executing several large-scale projects, including general plan updates, the implementation of streamlined permitting systems, and various development and budgeting efforts.
“I am excited for this great opportunity, and look forward to working with the community, neighborhood partners, and all City stakeholders,” said Mr. Orci. “I am committed to continuing the Department’s efforts to build a dynamic, safe, and sustainable City.”
Development Services remains dedicated to overseeing the physical development and revitalization of the City, and enhancing quality of life through comprehensive code enforcement, affordable housing, and several neighborhood improvement and community involvement programs.
Mr. Orci’s primary focus will be overseeing the Code Enforcement Bureau, the Building and Safety Bureau, and the Housing and Neighborhood Services Bureau.
He has a Bachelor’s Degree in City and Regional Planning from California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo, and is a 2011 American Planning Association (APA) Award winner.
Mr. Orci is replacing Angela Reynolds, who retired in December 2015 after serving more than 20 years with the City and more than four years as Deputy Director of Development Services. Rob Zur Schmiede has been serving as Interim Deputy Director since January 2016.About Long Beach Development Services
