Long Beach Mayor Bob Foster, 5th District Long Beach City Councilwoman Gerrie Schipske, and the Department of Parks, Recreation and Marine invite the public to a grand opening ceremony for the El Dorado Dog Park on Saturday, February 8, 2014 at 10 am, in the southeast corner of El Dorado East Regional Park, Area II.

"El Dorado Dog Park is the first new park opening in Long Beach this year and the City's seventh dog park,” Mayor Foster said.

The 1.5-acre off-leash dog park is the first dog park in northeast Long Beach. It has double-gate entry, separation between large and small dog areas, a drinking fountain, benches and waste bag dispensers. The dog park is also ADA accessible.

"The Fifth District's wonderful new dog park provides a place for big dogs and a place for little dogs to have fun and socialize," said Councilwoman Schipske, "It fulfills an important need for our community's dog owners and is in such a convenient setting."

The community was involved in the planning of the dog park. The City of Long Beach now has 10 acres of parkspace where dogs can frolic leash-free.

The cost to construct the dog park was approximately $65,000, with funding from one-time infrastructure dollars.

The dog park can be accessed by using the Spring Street entrance for El Dorado East Regional Park. For more information, call 562.570.3150.
