The suspect of the murder of Rosa Elena Hernandez has been identified as 27-year-old, Amad Rashad Redding of Long Beach. He is currently being held on $2,000,000 at the Long Beach City Jail.

On Monday, May 13, 2019 at approximately 12:28 p.m., officers were dispatched to the 3100 block of E. 64th Street regarding an assault with a deadly weapon, which resulted in the death of a female adult.
Upon arrival, officers located a female adult with significant injuries to her upper torso. The Long Beach Fire Department responded and determined the female victim deceased at the scene.
The Los Angeles County Coroner’s Office also responded and will be determining cause of death. The victim is being identified as 63-year-old, Rosa Elena Hernandez of Long Beach.
Through their initial investigation, Homicide detectives believe the suspect physically assaulted the victim and then proceeded to utilize a motorized scooter as a weapon during the assault.
The suspect was described as a male Black adult with facial hair, wearing a black hooded sweatshirt, black pants, and red shoes. Last seen on foot, running westbound on 64th Street.
Within four hours of the incident, at approximately 5:00 pm, detectives located a person of interest at a local business in the area of Downey Avenue and Artesia Boulevard. He was taken into custody without incident and was later booked for murder and is being held on $2,000,000 bail. The identification of the suspect is pending until records can confirm his information.
