Long Beach Search & Rescue
The Leaders Of Tomorrow
This program provides young adults an opportunity to serve the public during emergency situations while encouraging them to explore career possibilities in the law enforcement, fire protection and emergency medical services fields. Long Beach Search & Rescue is an award-winning Learning for Life Explorer Post co-sponsored by the Long Beach Police Motor Patrol and Long Beach Firefighter's associations.
Search & Rescue applicants must:

Be between the ages of 15 and 18 years of age

Not have a serious police record Maintain at least a "C" grade point average in school

Be in good physical condition Be willing to devote their time to serve the community

Successfully complete an oral interview, physical ability test and 15-week recruit academy

Activities will include:
- Missing person/evidence searches
Support at major fires, SWAT Team support, Aircraft accidents
- H
azardous materials spill
Support during major wind/rain storms
Mass casualty incidents
Earthquake response

eighborhood evacuations
Sobriety checkpoints
First aid teams at community events

| Training Opportunities:
Members meet weekly to train in:
Ride-alongs with our Police and Fire Departments
Rescue team organization
Vehicle extrication
Rappeling Ropes and knots
Traffic and crowd control
Fire suppression First aid and CPR
Emergency rescue and transfer
Search patterns and Firearms familiarization |
