The Long Beach Police Academy, in conjunction with Long Beach City College, has created a curriculum for participants to gain insight and understanding of the criminal justice system and the Long Beach Police Department. The goal of the Community Police Academy is to build a strong relationship between the citizens of Long Beach and the Long Beach Police Department for the future of our community.
Long Beach Police Officers, Detectives, and other experts will give presentations and conduct demonstrations on the numerous services, programs and duties we have at the LBPD. Patrol operations, narcotics, criminal law, S.W.A.T., K-9, and other related fields will also be taught during the Community Police Academy. Participants will have an opportunity to ride along with a police officer in a patrol unit and experience police work from an entirely new perspective. Upon graduation, you will earn two units of college credit from Long Beach City College. Academy Schedule
Academy sessions last for fifteen weeks and are held one night a week from 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. Sessions will be held at the Long Beach Academy and a graduation ceremony will be held at the conclusion of the academy. Requirements
