Reserve Police Officer

The Long Beach Police Department is currently accepting applications for its Police Reserve Program.  Candidates who are selected, will be invited to attend a POST Certified Basic Modular Police Academy for extensive law enforcement training.

DUTIES:
The Reserve Police Officer works under the direction of the Chief of Police. Once the Reserve Officer is on-duty, he/she has all the responsibility and authority of a Peace Officer. A Reserve Police Officer performs many interesting and important duties. Some of those include uniform patrol, parole/gang sweeps, vice operations, parades, sporting events, special events, and safety checkpoints to name a few. In the event of an emergency, the Reserve Officer can be mobilized under the direction of the Chief of Police to protect life and property.


REQUIREMENTS:

  • 20 1/2 YEARS OF AGE OR OLDER
  • HIGH SCHOOL GRADUATE OR EQUIVALENT G.E.D
  • NO FELONY CONVICTIONS
  • PHYSICALLY FIT
  • POSSESS VALID CALIFORNIA DRIVER'S LICENSE
  • U.S. CITIZENSHIP OR PROOF OF APPLICATION


SELECTION PROCESS:
Once you meet the above requirements, you must next pass the selection process. The process is similar to that of a full-time Peace Officer.

  • PHYSICAL ABILITY TEST
  • WRITTEN PSYCHOLOGICAL EXAM
  • MEDICAL EXAM
  • POLYGRAPH
  • ORAL PSYCHOLOGICAL EXAM
  • BACKGROUND CHECK


TRAINING:
The Long Beach Police Academy or training facility chosen by The Long Beach Police Academy will offer a Basic-Modular Academy format. This program is presented once a year with scheduled time off and is designed for the working adult. It usually requires 16 - 24 hours of attendance during the weeknights and some weekends. Completion of the program will afford the student the opportunity to become a Reserve Police Officer. This is a Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) Basic-Modular certified course.
