English Language Community Police Academy

This program introduces students to the Long Beach Police Department and the criminal justice system.  Officers, detectives, and other experts will give presentations and conducts demonstrations on the numerous services, programs and duties the Department at the LBPD.  Students will be permitted to go on a “ride-a-long” and experience police work from an entirely new perspective.

The class will meet every Wednesday night, from 6:30 pm to 9:30 pm, for 15-weeks.  Each session will be held at the Long Beach Police Academy, 7290 E. Carson Boulevard. 

Program Requirements:

• Should be a resident of Long Beach or work in Long Beach
• Must pass a Livescan fingerprint check
• No outstanding warrants, pending criminal cases, or criminal convictions
• Minimum of age of 18

The start date for the next class has not yet been determined; however, it is anticipated to be Fall 2011.  Applications are being accepted and will be kept on file for the upcoming class.  Applicants will be notified as more information becomes available.

Spanish Language Community Police Academy

Participants will gain an understanding of the Long Beach Police Department as well as insight into the criminal justice system.  Information on topics such as Patrol Operations, Investigations, Gang Enforcement, Juvenile Operations, Police “911” Communications Center, and other related fields will be provided by Police Department Experts.  In addition, participates will be able to participate in a variety of Department activities, such as tours, and have the opportunity to participate in a patrol ride-a-long.  The classes will be taught in the Spanish language.  

The class will meet every Thursday night, from 6:30 pm to 9:30 pm, for 9-weeks.  Each session will be held at the Long Beach Police Department’s Public Safety Building, 400 West Broadway. 

The start date for the next class has not yet been determined; however, it is anticipated to be Fall 2011.  Applications are being accepted and will be kept on file for the upcoming class.  Applicants will be notified as more information becomes available.
