Commander Ditmars, a native of Long Beach, is a twenty-seven year veteran of the Police Department.  During this time, he has worked in all of the four Patrol Divisions as an officer, sergeant and lieutenant.  Additionally, he has worked as a K-9 handler and unit supervisor, and as an Academy Training Officer and supervisor.

Currently, Commander Ditmars is in charge of the new Emergency Operations Division, which includes the Communications Section, Homeland Security, the Office of Counter Terrorism and the Port, Airport and Transit Security Units.  The focus of the Division is homeland security preparedness and the response capabilities; critical infrastructure protection; interaction with other law enforcement agencies and sharing of information; and coordination of Department activities through effective radio and data communications.

Commander Ditmars has a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Southern California and two Masters degrees from California State University Long Beach in Public Policy Administration and Emergency Services Administration.  He is a graduate of the Supervisory Leadership Institute, the FBI National Academy and the USC CREATE program.  He is married with two adult children.
