| |  |  |  | | | | Commander John Benedetti joined the Long Beach Police Department in November of 1980. He is currently assigned to the Patrol Bureau’s Field Support Division since his promotion to Commander in September of 2010. Commander Benedetti has served in all four bureaus of the police department throughout his career. His past assignments include East and North Patrol Divisions, Field Support Division, SWAT, Internal Affairs Division, Administration Bureau, Forgery/Fraud Detail and Drug Investigations Section. In the Support Bureau, Commander Benedetti served as the Homeland Security Section Lieutenant and as the Acting Commander of the Emergency Operations Division. Commander Benedetti is a lifetime member of the California Narcotics Officers Association, California Peace Officers Association, Long Beach Command Officers Association, FBI National Academy Associates, and an associate member of the Long Beach Police Officers Association. His notable achievements include: graduate of the FBI National Academy, graduate of the Sherman Block Supervisory Leadership Institute, acquired approximately $22 million in Homeland Security Grant funding for the police department, nationally recognized subject matter expert for homeland security grants and preparedness planning and is an instructor for Weapons of Mass Destruction – First Responder training and planning. Commander Benedetti holds an Associate of Science degree from Los Angeles Harbor Community College and is currently enrolled at the California State University of Long Beach. He is married with two grown children and lives in Long Beach. | | |
