William S. Blair

William S. Blair is the Deputy Chief of Police for the Long Beach Police Department’s Investigation Bureau, which includes the Gang and Violent Crimes Division, Detective Division, Youth Services Division and Forensic Sciences Services Division.

 

Deputy Chief Blair began his career with the Long Beach Police Department over two decades ago. Knowing early in his life that he wanted a career in law enforcement, he became a Police Explorer for the City of Los Alamitos when he was 14 years old. He continued his career development as a Reserve Police Officer for the City of Tustin, before being hired at age 20, as a Police Officer for the City of Signal Hill.

 

Becoming a part of the Long Beach Police Department in 1984 brought him great opportunities and assignments in Patrol, Narcotics, SWAT, Gang Enforcement and Academy Instruction. Recent assignments include being the Commanding Officer of the Field Training Program and Lieutenant of the Crimes Against Persons Section. He promoted to the position of Commander in January of 2003, and was assigned to the Gang and Violent Crimes Division for two years. Subsequently, he became the Commander for the South Patrol Division before holding the position of Chief of Staff for Police Chief Anthony W. Batts. Currently, as the Deputy Chief of the Investigation Bureau he is responsible for a staff of 310 employees and a budget of approximately $34 million, with a customer base of 495,000 residents.

 

Deputy Chief Blair is a current Board Member for the Los Angeles Inter-Agency Metropolitan Police Apprehension Crime Task Force (LAIMPACT) and Conservation Corp of Long Beach, member of the California Narcotics Officers Association, California Gang Investigators Association, and the Long Beach Command Officer’s Association. He is a graduate of the Supervisory Leadership Institute, Federal Bureau of Investigation National Academy and is active in numerous community organizations.

 

He holds a Bachelor’s of Science Degree in Vocational Education and a Master of Science Degree in Emergency Services Administration from California State University, Long Beach. Deputy Chief Blair was the 2005 recipient of the “Chief’s Leadership Award” and has received numerous awards and commendations for his professional work.

 

Deputy Chief Blair is married to retired Long Beach Police Officer Jana Blair. They have been married for 19 years and have two daughters. In his spare time, he enjoys teaching, golf, and traveling with his family.
