Richard Meyer

Richard Meyer is currently the Commander of the Internal Affairs Division. He began his diverse career with the Long Beach Police Department in 1981.

 

As an officer he was assigned to Patrol, Sex Crimes and Vice Investigations. He was promoted to Corporal in 1989 and to Sergeant in 1990. As a sergeant, he was assigned to Patrol, Office of the Chief of Police, Gang Investigations, Traffic/Motors and SWAT.

 

In 2004, he was promoted to lieutenant, where he was assigned to Patrol and Vice Investigations Section until his promotion to commander in 2007.

 

Commander Meyer grew up in the greater Long Beach area, graduating from David Starr Jordan High School. He earned an Associate of Arts Degree in Administration of Justice from Long Beach City College and a Bachelors of Science Degree in Vocational Education from California State University, Long Beach. He is also a graduate of the Federal Bureau of Investigation, National Academy, Supervisory Leadership Institute and University of Southern California, Delinquency Control Institute. He is married and has three daughters.
