Crime Prevention Unit

The following programs are operated through the Community Relations Division.


The main objective of the Crime Prevention Unit is to reduce the opportunity for crime, thereby reducing the likelihood that crime will occur. The Crime Prevention Unit is committed to the development and implementation of comprehensive proactive programs, procedures that anticipates, recognizes, and assesses crime risks, and which initiate actions to remove or reduce those crime risks. Although crime prevention is a fundamental responsibility of every departmental employee, the Crime Prevention Unit is specifically charged with the responsibilities of planning and coordinating events and programs to inform, educate, and assist citizens in becoming more crime prevention / crime reduction oriented.

CRIME PREVENTION THROUGH ENVIRONMENTAL DESIGN

The following suggestions are made for the purpose of reducing the likelihood of criminal activity. While no guarantee can be stated or implied, the concepts of C.P.T.E.D. have proven themselves internationally. The Long Beach Police Department offers the inspection as a public service, with the understanding that there is no way to predict or prevent all crime risks. The purpose of this inspection is to reduce the potential for crime, by making a good faith effort to provide a safe environment.
