WANT TO FIGHT CRIME AT YOUR BUSINESS?

The Long Beach Police Department would like to invite you to join its Business Watch Program. Our goal is to minimize the crime problems in your business area, while teaching owners how to maintain a crime-free business. We want to build a strong rapport, encouraging merchants to be the “eyes and ears” of the Police Department.

WHY JOIN BUSINESS WATCH?

The Business Watch program offers the following free benefits:

• Registration of your business with the Police Department, so police can contact you if there is a problem at your business after regular business hours
• Help in dealing with panhandlers and other loiterers who scare off customers
• Security inspections of your business by Police Department experts
• Personal safety presentations for your employees
• Guest speakers for business association meetings
• Invitations to periodic Business Watch seminars on such topics as Robbery, Forgery/Fraud and Identity Theft

HOW TO JOIN:

There is no cost to join. Just complete the Business Watch Program Registration Form (Attachment #1) in this handout and mail it to the address shown on the form. The information will be kept on file, resulting in more efficient service when you call 911 in an emergency. This information allows police officers to contact the owner or owner’s agent after regular business hours to report a problem at the business and to conduct further investigation into whether or not a crime has occurred. The information will also be utilized to list victim contact information when an officer makes an arrest at your business after regular business hours.

HOW TO REPORT A PROBLEM:

In the event of an emergency, or to report a crime as it is occurring, dial 911. You can use the Police Assistance Request Form (Attachment #2) in this handout to inform the police about any ongoing or repeated problems in your business area. Officers will respond to the request as soon as possible.
