| Media Relations Office The Long Beach Police Department’s Media Relations Detail is comprised of three full-time police officers and one police services assistant that are supervised by a Sergeant. The functions include:
- The release of crime statistics, information regarding critical incidents, breaking events, educational information and the showcasing of the Department’s operations and achievements.
- The unit responds to a high volume of requests from, local, regional, and international media as well as from the Chief of Police and legislative bodies on a daily basis.
- Members of the unit maintain an on-call status to respond to media inquiries on a 24-hour basis 365 days a year.
- Maintain and continuously update the Department’s internal TV channel that provides important Department information and training.
- Continuously provide support to the Community Relations Staff for community program requests, speaking engagements, the development of public safety educational material and assist with special event coordination and presentation.
- Facilitate and coordinate participation in national news programs that highlight the Long Beach community (i.e. 20/20, America’s Most Wanted, 60 minutes, The Learning Channel, CNN, Prime Time Live).
· Provide media relations training to new recruits and other
department personnel as needed.
· Coordinate with public information officers from other city
departments or outside jurisdictions.
