Organize or Strengthen Neighborhood Improvement Associations.
The future of Long Beach's neighborhoods depend on the involvement of residents and business people. If your area does not have a neighborhood association, a Planner can assist you in forming one. If a neighborhood association already exists in your area, he or she can work with you to strengthen it, giving you new ideas or examples from other groups.
Provide information on City efforts.
Your Planner tells you about the Long Beach General Plan, results of the recently completed citywide re-zoning program, and the Redevelopment Program. He or she will be happy to meet with any groups or associations regarding new developments, city programs, services and regulations which support your neighborhood activities.
Solve neighborhood problems.
Planners can work with you to solve a wide range of local problems; redesigning developers' proposals to better fit into the community, revising street circulation and intersection patterns, and correcting nuisances caused by improper use or maintenance of land by individual property owners. He or she can also help stabilize your neighborhood by assisting in the formation of special neighborhood activities.
Coordinate community improvement efforts.
Developers, individual property owners and public agencies often work independently in planning projects. Your Planner can help coordinate these plans with the needs of your neighborhood to develop an integrated improvement program agreeable to everyone.
Reinforce communication between City Hall and your community.
Your Planner can guide you to various City Departments to attain the information you need. He or she can express your concerns during the planning process and inform you of various improvement programs such as property maintenance enforcement, neighborhood watch and graffiti removal.
