Canine Classes for September to December 2009

PUPPY KINDERGARTEN 10yrs & up • $63

For puppies 2-5 months. Socialization skills, introduction of basic commands, and talks on dog care and puppy problems such as housebreaking and chewing. First meeting held without puppies. Puppy diplomas awarded at last meeting. Vaccinations must be current. $10 material fee payable at first meeting. First class: W class held north of Willow St. & south of softball complex; Tu class held near bandshell on Federation Way north of 7th St. Bring lawn chair to first class. Proper training equipment will be discussed at orientation and available for purchase (if needed). (6-wks) Instructor: Thurner or Healey, Hacienda Hills Dog Obedience Club.

FRISBEE FUN WITH YOUR DOG  10yrs & up • $44

Have your ever watched the Dog Frisbee Competitions on TV and thought it might be a fun activity for you and your best friend? Avid Dog-Disc Competitor, David Procida, will teach proper frisbee throwing techniques, how to get your motivated to catch a disc and bring it back, and an intro to various stunts, such as spins, twists and weaving between your legs. Pre-register, so that we may contact you on what to bring. $5 material fee is due to instructor (includes Frisbee). Prerequisite: basic on-leash obedience. For dogs 6 months & older.

DOG MANNERS – CRASH COURSE 10yrs & up • $63

This 4-wk fast-paced course is geared for people who need to accomplish their training goals and get behavior problems under control within a limited period of time. During each 80-min meeting, several new obedience skills will be introduced and preventative and corrective measures for a variety of bad habits will be discussed. Exercises include: sit and down on command, stay or sit down in position with distractions, come when called, and controlled walking on a leash.  For dog ages 5 mos. or older. Vaccinations must be current. Please pre-register and you will be contacted regarding what to bring to first meeting. (Dogs are to be brought to all meetings.) $5 insurance fee.

DOG OBEDIENCE – NOVICE Handlers   10yrs & up • $75

For dogs 5 mos. and older(large breed ok 4 months). Basic commands (heel, sit, down, stay, stand, come), long distance work and boundary training, plus help with correcting behavior problems. Trophies and diplomas at graduation. First meeting Without Dogs. Vaccinations must be current. $10 material fee payable at first meeting. First class: Tu class park on Federation Way, meet near Band Shell; Wed. class held on grass median north of Willow St. & south of softball complex; Thurs. class held at Community Ctr. Patio area; Sat. class held 1 block east of Community Center on 23rd Street. Please bring lawn chair to first class. Dogs over 6 months. Continue your canine’s education! Advanced obedience exercises for dogs who have completed a Novice Obedience course. Emergency down (Drop on Recall), Five-minute sit and down-stay with owner out of sight, and other advanced commands will be taught.  Dogs attend all meetings. Trophies & Certificates awarded at graduation. Bring shot records and $10 materials fee. (8wks)

DOG OBEDIENCE – REFRESHER/DRILL 9yrs & up • $58

Review and practice all your novice obedience exercises! For anyone who has completed a basic obedience course and wants to continue polishing your dog’s skills in a class setting. Focus your dog’s attention as you make the transition to off-leash control and practice long distance stays and recalls. A good practice course for those preparing to take the “A.K.C. Good Citizen” certification test. Bring dog with training equipment, including lunge line to first class.  Park on Federation Way, meet at Band Shell. (5-wks) Instructor: Healey. $5 insurance fee.

CANINE GAMES AGILITY COURSE – NOVICE 10yrs & up • $75

Looking for something new, fun, and challenging to do with your canine couch potato? This unique agility obstacle course offers intriguing stations including A-frame, teeter-totter, dog-walk, tire jump, various tunnels & weave poles. A timed agility competition with awards concludes the 8-wk session. Bring $30 supply/equipment fee (equip. maintenance, insurance, awards) a lawn chair, and vaccination records to orientation, held without dogs north of Willow St. & south of softball complex. CANINE GAMES AGILITY

COURSE – ADVANCED  10yrs & up • $75

Prerequisite: Novice Agility Course. A continuation course for intermediate and advanced students who wish to learn additional strategies and continue practicing to fine-tune the dog’s performance. Students may bring dogs to first meeting; some obstacles will be set up for practice after $30 supply/equipment fee has been paid and paperwork completed. Meet north of Willow St. & south of softball complex. (8-wks) Instructor: Ortiz.

A.K.C. CANINE GOOD CITIZEN CERTIFICATION   9yrs & up • $25

This program tests dogs in ten skill areas, including response to simple obedience commands, and various temperament tests. Previous obedience training required. Students who pass all ten “Canine Good Citizen” skills will earn the official American Kennel Club certificate.
