Pajama Party for a Good Cause - Children in Need

Long Beach Council Member Suja Lowenthal Partners with Food Finders for a Citywide Pajama Party to Help Raise Awareness for Food Finders with a Pajama-Drive for Young In-Need Residents

For those working 9 to 5, Casual Friday has revolutionized the office as employees go from buttoned-up to buttoned down on the last day of the work week. On Friday, December 6 Food Finders, along with the support of 2nd District Councilmember Suja Lowenthal, will take casualwear to the extreme with a citywide “Wear Your Pajamas to Work Day” asking residents, office workers and anyone who feels inclined to don pajamas for the day and donate a pair of new pajamas to the young, in-need residents of Long Beach and its surrounding communities.

Donation drop off locations include Second District Council office in City Hall, The Federal Bar on Pine Avenue in Downtown Long Beach, Sababa Restaurant and Lounge in the Marketplace on PCH and 2nd Street. New pajamas, slippers, books and robes for children aged infant to age 18 will be accepted through December 18. Those donating will be rewarded with a certificate for a complimentary appetizer at Sababa Restaurant & Lounge (

“I think this is a great idea for a great cause,” said Councilmember Lowenthal. “Everyone from office workers to those behind the counters at retail stores can get into the fun of wearing their pajamas to work. More importantly, it will bring awareness to the many young citizens who need some assistance with what most of us take for granted. My hope is that we collect a truck load of pajamas on “Wear Your Pajamas to Work Day.”
No need to plan your wardrobe for the day or bother with accessories. Simply throw on some footsy pajamas, don a favorite nightshirt, or come clad in silk
loungers, a smoking jacket and slippers to partake in some water cooler conversation.

“Most people associate us with canned food drives and food-related assistance,” said Patti Larson, executive director for Food Finders. “And, of course, that is the main component of our mission. But those we serve need the basics, and many don’t have a warm pair of pajamas to sleep in. I hope December 6 changes that for those who depend on Food Finders for their fundamental needs. Our goal is to collect 500 pairs of new pajamas.”
Businesses who would like to participate in Food Finders “Wear Your Pajamas to Work Day” or serve as a drop off location should call 562.283.1400 extension 101. Food Finders will also be accepting new pajamas at its Signal Hill location as well.
