Schipske Urges Mayor to Call Governor Brown to Bring Boeing 777x Wing Assembly to Long Beach

Long Beach, Ca – November 5, 2015 – In response to late breaking news that the Governor Jay Inslee, Washington has called for the state’s legislature to offer tax breaks and infrastructure improvements to keep the Boeing 777x wing assembly in that state, Fifth District Councilwoman Gerrie Schipske is calling on Long Beach Mayor Bob Foster to contact California Governor Jerry Brown to negotiate a deal to bring the wing assembly to Long Beach.

“Do whatever it takes to keep 5000 jobs here in our city,” exclaimed Schipske, whose council district includes Boeing, “Long Beach needs these jobs. It may be the 11th hour, but every effort should be made to preserve Long Beach as an important aerospace center as it has been since aviation began in our country.”

According to the Forbes article, Boeing was looking at several sites, including Long Beach and that the work would provide 20 -25 years of employment wherever it is located.

Schipske submitted a council agenda item today asking for a council resolution in support of efforts to encourage Boeing to remain in Long Beach and to direct the City Manager to determine what steps can be taken by the City to convince Boeing to bring the 777x wing work to Long Beach. Now that negotiations have escalated in Washington, the Councilwoman is urging quick action to make Long Beach the city of choice for the Boeing 777x wing assembly work.
