On Friday, October 18, 2013, WomenShelter of Long Beach will host its 7th annual Candlelight Vigil. We want to invite you to join us in making 2013 our most impactful year.  Last year, over 300 people from all over Long Beach and LA County participated in our walk.

The Candlelight Vigil engages community members, elected officials, businesses and students in making a social statement as a visible means of protest against domestic violence. This powerful event plays a critical role in educating the public about the dramatic effects of domestic violence in our local community.

When: Friday, October 18, 2013 at 6:00 PM

Where: Meet at the old Acres of Books lot (3rd St. between Long Beach Blvd. and Elm Ave.)

Why: Walk in honor of domestic violence survivors and in the remembrance of those who have died at the hands of someone they knew

Supported by:  LBPD Police Chief's Women's Advisory Group, the City of Long Beach's Human Dignity Project, and other local partners

This year's event  will expand to include a free post-Vigil education event to be held at the ArtExchange, an innovative visual arts center in the East Village Arts District of downtown Long Beach.

WSLB has come together with A Window between Worlds to host WE CAN. Designed to empower, each individual who attends will leave knowing that they can make a difference and that together as a community we are powerful in the face of domestic violence.  The WE CAN event will include a survivor's art exhibit and art workshops with a focus on the I Can/We Can hands, Community members can paint their hand with a personal message/statement, which will be their own pledge to their community that they will say no to violence.  Each hand painted at the event will be photographed and displayed on-line and at the event.
