Broadway Visioning Study

On February 22, stakeholders received a presentation from RSAUSD/UTILE on possible improvements to Broadway and provided feedback to Councilmember Lowenthal, City staff and the architect.

Next steps include review of public comments by city technical and stakeholder committees with the consultant Roger Sherman of RSAUD/UTILE and consideration of details for a traffic study and demonstration project.

Our small business corridors are critical arteries in our local economy, offering community services and linking neighborhoods together.

When Councilmember Lowenthal first came into office, she encouraged our corridors to organize and develop visions for prosperity. Since then, Broadway, 4th and 7th Streets have made great strides, but she wants to make sure their progress extends well into the future.

To this end, Councilmember Lowenthal is partnering with Broadway stakeholder groups to fund an urban design architect to help us craft a vision for Broadway that will reflect the consensus of businesses and residents. The visioning process will include three community meetings held over 6 months and produce deliverables for planning and grant purposes. In addition, Councilmember Lowenthal has set aside one-time infrastructure funding to assist each corridor in getting started on their vision.

Ultimately, this vision plan will accomplish a few things:

1) Inform city staff of the community's priorities for projects and funding
2) Enable the community to focus on long term goals
3) Provide the basis for grant applications to MTA and other fund sources

Once Broadway completes its visioning process, Councilmember Lowenthal will be working with stakeholders on 4th Street and East 7th Street to develop their own set of priorities and projects.

So get involved and share your ideas for making our small business corridors even more vibrant and community serving.
