Shaping Up the Fifth, Councilwoman Schipske Walks Neighborhood to Assess Sidewalks

Long Beach, CA – February 14, 2013 – Councilwoman Gerrie Schipske and her staff will be walking the Fifth District neighborhood between E. Spring St. and E. Monlaco Rd., Clark Ave. to Charlemagne Ave. beginning February 15, to inspect and inventory sidewalks in need of repair in the area and to drop off a VIAL of L.I.F.E. for area residents. Schipske will be dropping off forms and information asking residents to respond with areas in need of repair and improvements.

Work slated for the area this year include:

· Tree trimming, root pruning and installation of root barriers at existing parkway trees and tree removals as necessary;

· Removal of existing deteriorated or root damaged sidewalks and construction and;

· Repair of damaged irrigation systems.

“The total sidewalk budget is $542,435 for this fiscal year and are a result of one-time monies from the oil fund. Input from Fifth District residents to prioritize projects will help determine where revenues will be spent,” explained Councilwoman Gerrie Schipske, “We will continue working our way down the list of streets and curbs. My staff and I are continuously updating sidewalks that need fixing as more funding becomes available.”
