Open Up Long Beach: Residents to Get Behind the Scenes Look at City’s Health & Human Services Department

LONG BEACH, CA; October 24, 2012 – For those who have explored the City of Long Beach Health and Human Services Department website and wondered about the staggering number of services the department provides, the next Open Up Long Beach meeting on November 14th and will provide a behind the scenes look at how the Health and Human Services Department operates and manages to cover so many areas of need.

“Our City’s Health and Human Services Department covers everything from birth and death records to bio terrorism preparedness. It helps provide immunizations and low cost health services, housing assistance, counseling, wellness programs, and reaches out to thousands of our city’s residents every year. It may be the most important single entity in the city,” commented Councilwoman Gerrie Schipske, who initiated the Open Up Long Beach meetings to make city government more open, transparent, and accountable, and help residents get to know how various departments operate.

The November 14th meeting will take place at 2525 Grand Avenue, Long Beach 90815, from 6:00 to 8:00 pm. Seating is limited, and calling to reserve your space is recommended.

From the time of her election to council in 2006, Fifth District Councilwoman Gerrie Schipske has been dedicated to an open and transparent government. She is the first and only councilmember in Long Beach to communicate with her constituents via blog. She also utilizes Facebook, Twitter, electronic newsletters and email. Councilwoman Schipske is always looking for unique ways to communicate vital information to the residents of Long Beach who are interested and concerned with the legislative process for the City of Long Beach.
