Easing Regulations
Change to Home Occupation Permits
Dear Reader,

In August of 2011, I was one of the City Council members requesting a review of the City's policies and regulations for home occupations to include masonry and plumbing contractors as permitted uses. The request was based on an all-time high unemployment numbers in California and the need to allow self-employment for these types of skilled building trades in residential zones, provided that safeguards are kept in place to preserve the residential character of a neighborhood.

On Tuesday, May 22, 2012 the City Council concluded the public hearing  to clarify operational requirements and establish new parameters for acceptable uses for home occupations -- thereby paving the way for these home businesses.
