Free Income Tax Preparation Assistance
Jerome E. Horton, Chairman of the CA State Board of Equalization (BOE) announces free income tax preparation assistance for qualified filers through the Voluntary Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program. "For every 1,000 returns completed, up to 5.7 million dollars can be recaptured from the federal government, helping stimulate local economies and aiding in improving the quality of life for low-income working individuals and families," said Horton.
Attached please find the BOE VITA Program Pamphlet that will provide more details about the upcoming VITA events, including eligibility requirements, necessary documents, locations, dates, and times. The BOE will also host Free Income Tax Preparation Services at each BOE District Office one day a week from January 25, 2012 to April 13, 2012. Newcomb K-8 Academy is hosting a free "E-Waste Drive" drop-off

TV's, Computer Monitors & Keyboards, loose electrical cords, computer ink cartridges etc. are all welcome. They will unload your e-waste for you, from your car and receipts will be given.
A "Used Book" drop-off will be available too. Used books will be contributed to the PTSA book sale fundraiser in May.

East Division Community Gatherings with the Long Beach Police Department
Commander Beckman will host quarterly East Division Community Gatherings at the East Division Sub-Station in 2012.

Engaged citizens from the entire division, including representatives from neighborhood and business associations will be invited to attend. Last Call for the 2012 Solar Grand Prix
The Office of Councilwoman Schipske is still accepting registration forms from teams in grades 9 - 12.
Teams must be made up of 4 students and a teacher or parent must serve as a coach.
The Solar Grand Prix challenges local students to use scientific know-how, creative thinking, experimentation, and teamwork to design and build high-performance model solar vehicles. The race will be held in El Dorado Park on Saturday, April 21, 2012.
A mandatory orientation will be held on the morning of January 21st.
