Community Meetings Scheduled on Keller Closing and Newcomb Construction

At a public workshop on Tuesday, Nov. 15, the Long Beach Unified School District staff proposed that the Board of Education close Keller Elementary at the end of this school year. Keller students would be transferred to Burcham K-8 School next fall.  Keller would then temporarily accommodate students and staff from Newcomb K-8 School while Newcomb is completely rebuilt.

Last week, the families of Keller Elementary students received this letter from the Long Beach Unified School District, which recommends the closure of Keller Elementary at 7020 E. Brittain Street in the 5th District.

This week's LBUSD Bulletin includes this story, which outlines the proposed closure and construction.

Two community meetings are scheduled for the week after Thanksgiving to discuss the proposals prior to any action by the school board. A final decision on these matters may occur on either the Dec. 6 or Dec. 20 school board meetings.
