Belmont Plaza Pool Re-Opened After Repairs

Belmont Plaza Pool, 4000 East Olympic Plaza, re-opened to the public on Monday, November 14 at 5:30 a.m. after begin closed for several weeks for maintenance and repairs.

Over the past two years, the 40-year old Belmont Pool has been losing an excessive amount of water. The Department of Parks, Recreation and Marine took advantage of its annual September maintenance closure to identify the source of the leaks and make all necessary repairs.

The project was funded by Los Angeles County funds dedicated to the Belmont Plaza Pool.

With the celebrtion of  the re-opening, Parks, Recreation and Marine will offer extended hours with free admission on Monday, November 14.  The pool will be open from 5:30 a.m. – 2 p.m. and from 4-7 p.m., with water exercise classes at 6:30 a.m., 8 a.m. and 6 p.m.  In addition, the Belmont Plaza Outdoor Pool opened to accommodate swimmers for lap and recreational swimming during the closure, will remain open until November 20 with the following schedule:

Lap Swim             Monday, Wednesday, Friday  7 a.m. – 2 p.m.

                           Tuesday & Thursday              5:30 a.m. – 2 p.m.

                           Saturday / Sunday                 8 a.m. – 12 noon

Rec. Swim           Saturday / Sunday                 12 noon – 3 p.m.

The Outdoor Pool is a 6-lane, 25 yard heated pool with a water temperature of 80 degrees.  The pool is 3-1/2 feet deep throughout.  The pool facility offers a weight room, locker room and showers.
Belmont Plaza Pool opened in August of 1968, prior to hosting the Olympic Trials that year.  Men’s and Women’s Diving, Men’s Swimming and Men’s Water Polo were held at the pool which featured an underwater television and sound system.  The T-shaped, eight lane, million-gallon, all tile pool provided extremely smooth water due to extra wide and extra deep gutters and tiny water inlets at the bottom of the pool.  The pool continues to be a popular choice for both public and competitive use.

Swim lesson registration for classes scheduled to begin in January is going on now.  Visit to register online using the RecConnect program.  Registration will also be taken at the pool during open hours beginning November 14.
