Look What's Happening Downtown...

 

As summer winds down, I wanted to keep you in the loop about some great events coming up in Downtown Long Beach. Join us at any of these events and meet the neighbors and people that are transforming Downtown Long Beach into a safer and more exciting place to live.

Community Budget Meeting: This Wednesday, August 17, 6pm

This Wednesday night we will be meeting at Cafe Berlin on 4th street for a community discussion on the 2012 City Budget. Join us and city management as we discuss city capital improvements in the 2012 budget, and the city manager's proposed cuts. For more information on the city budget, you can click here.

CARE to Dine Fundraiser for HIV/AIDS programs: This Thursday, August 18
I hope you will join me and the LGB2NETWORK as we raise funds for the St. Mary's C.A.R.E. program. The program provides funds for AIDS/HIV patients and programs in Long Beach including research and education. We will be at L'Opera Restaurant on Thursday night from 6-8pm. Attendees will receive one cocktail and hosted hors d’oeuvres with a suggested donation of $20. L'Opera will also donate 20% of all restaurant proceeds that night for the C.A.R.E. program.

Twilight Walk: This Friday, August 19
If you have not attended a Twilight Walk, you are missing out on a great new event that happens the 3rd Friday of each month. The event, from 3rd Street to 10th Street on Pine Avenue from 6pm - 10pm, includes LIVE Music and ART. This Friday's walk includes live bands and music at various venues including Anderson Paint & Hardware, Venice Dreams, the Peddler Society, Exhibit A Gallery, the Kress Market, and more. In addition, the MADHaus studio will feature a special art exhibit remembering the 10th anniversary of September 11. Click here for more information.

Funk Fest & Busker Fest Concerts: August 20 & 27
We still have two major concerts left as part of the Summer and Music (SAM) series. The Annual Funk Fest is Saturday August 20, from 1-11pm on the Promenade between Broadway and 3rd, and Busker Fest will be Saturday August 27, from 5-11pm in the East Village Arts District.

3rd Annual Latin American Parade & Festival: September 10
The 3rd Annual Latin American Parade & Festival is coming Saturday September 10. Last year's event attracted more than 7,000 people, and we expect an even bigger crowd this year. We expect over 1000 parade participants, 15 live performances and over 40 vendors at the festival. This year's parade will begin at 6th Street on Pine Avenue and end on 3rd Street at the Promenade. The Festival will be located at 4th Street and Promenade. The Downtown Long Beach Associates is looking for groups interested in participating in the parade and or festival. MOLAA's En La Noche: September 15
Join us for this FREE night at the Museum of Latin American Art, as we celebrate EN LA NOCHE, a night of music, art, dance, and food. All Long Beach residents are invited to attend. This special event will feature a Live Mariachi Band, Drifter Car Show (Including the Famous Gypsy Rose), DJ Clorofila, Tequila Tasting, Free Museum Tours, and much more. We Love Long Beach Breakfast: September 17
Join We Love Long Beach at Drake Park for a community breakfast. All neighborhood residents are invited for the pancakes, sausage and other great breakfast foods. This will be a great chance to meet your neighbors. Drake Park from 9-11am.

Taste of Downtown on Pine Avenue: September 21 & 22
Taste of Downtown returns to Pine Avenue at Broadway. Almost two dozen Downtown restaurants will be serving up their best fare in order to impress your taste buds.
