Earlier this week, Mayor Foster and the City Manager released the 2012 budget and their recommendations. The budget presented includes reduced funding for all city departments to close a $20 million deficit. The City Council, after debate and deliberations, will approve a balanced budget within the next few weeks.
I would like to encourage you to get involved in our city budget process. The decisions that we make on the budget will be extremely important for the future of our city. To view all the city budget information, including the community budget book and schedule of meetings, please click here.
During the budget deliberations you will also hear productive discussion about pension reform. I believe that our police, firefighters, and city employees are ready to work with us to enact historical reforms that will have a real impact on our city's fiscal future.
Additionally, I will be hosting a community coffee to discuss the budget at the Birdcage Coffee House on 224 West 4th on Saturday, August 13th, at 10:00am. Please join us for coffee and a discussion of our city budget.
We will be making some important decisions that affect everything from our public safety resources to our parks and our libraries. Get involved and feel free to send me your ideas by email, a facebook message, a tweet, or by calling my office at (562) 570-6919
