A Slam Dunk At 14th Street

Today we broke ground on yet another great park project in the First District: New Basketball Courts at 14th Street and Locust.

The new facility, the length of a full city block, will have a full sized court and three half courts, with all new surfacing and seating, lights for evening play, new paint, landscaping, and the quality equipment the community deserve. At todayís groundbreaking, the excitement among the young people from the neighborhood was terrific. I canít wait to play a pick up game with them when the courts are complete.

We proposed this new park a year ago, and are grateful that Los Angeles County Supervisor Don Knabe secured $140,000 from the County to fully fund the project.

These new courts continue the incredible park growth we have had in the First District in only two years. A special thanks to the whole Parks & Recreation team for their support on this project.

We are transforming a community that has lacked park space into a neighborhood with some of the best parks in the City. And thereís more to come. You can watch coverage of our Courts ground breaking today on KCAL 9, ABC 7, CBS 2, and tomorrow's Press-Telegram.

The basketball courts should be ready for play at the end of the year. Iíll see you there for the first pick-up game.
