Starting this week, Long Beach will begin my favorite time of the year - graduation and commencement ceremonies at Cal State Long Beach, Long Beach City College, all of our local High Schools, and some our middle and elementary schools as well.
As an educator, and a college administrator - I am always reminded this time of the year why I entered education as a profession. Seeing our students, children, friends and family graduate is the reason we all work so hard to support them.
It makes me proud knowing that every year, Long Beach graduates thousands of new engineers, teachers, nurses, artists and others into the workplace. In fact, our city is extremely fortunate that many of these college graduates choose to make Long Beach their home or workplace.
Congratulations to all of our Long Beach graduates, and also to our Long Beach teachers. Our teachers have dedicated their lives to building a better future for our kids and students. We owe them a big thanks this time of year as well. As the first person in my family to attend college, I know the impact that our teachers have had on me personally, and to our community.
I have been attending the Long Beach City College and Cal State Long Beach graduations for many years, and will be out there again this week. Congrats, and see you all there.
