Motorists who use West Ocean Boulevard to travel between downtown Long Beach and San Pedro or Terminal Island will be directed to alternate routes as crews work to resurface and restripe the roadway on two weekends this month. Motorists may encounter traffic delays.
The project is taking place just west of the World Trade Center and on the
Ocean Boulevard Bridge over the Los Angeles River. Eastbound lanes were
resurfaced in December. To complete the resurfacing, westbound lanes will be closed from 8 p.m. Friday, January 7, to 8 p.m. Sunday, January 9. Traffic from downtown Long Beach toward Terminal Island will be rerouted north along Shoreline Drive.
To stripe, eastbound lanes will be closed Saturday, January 22, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Westbound lanes will be closed Sunday, January 23, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.
There will be detour signs and traffic controls for the alternate routes.
Trucks, such as those that travel to and from the Port of Long Beach, are not
allowed downtown and will not be affected by the closures.
The project is repairing and upgrading the roadway to restore a smooth driving surface for motorists. The weekend closures were selected to minimize the impact on weekday commuter traffic. The project is being managed by the Harbor Department and coordinated through the Long Beach Public Works Department.
