The state grant will fully fund the construction of the park in a community that has long lacked green space and parks. The park was designed by local residents and will include a children's play area, walking paths, open space for community gatherings, and native plants and landscaping. It will also be constructed to be in harmony with the historic character of the neighborhood.
My thanks go to the many residents who participated in this process. The participation of the community enabled us to obtain this grant, and we can all be very proud of that process.
I also want to thank the Parks and Recreation Department for all their hard work in developing this design and obtaining the funding, and the Long Beach Redevelopment Agency, which owns this land, for working so closely with us and with residents to make this dream a reality. This is a rare opportunity and it's going to be a fantastic addition to this great neighborhood.
