Join Me TOMORROW For The 2nd Annual Latin American Festival & Parade
The 2nd Annual Latin-American Parade and Festival in Downtown Long Beach is tomorrow, Saturday September 25, starting at 1pm.
The parade will run down Pine Avenue starting at 6th & Pine. After the parade, the festival begins in the East Village for a celebration that includes delicious Latin food, fantastic musical performances and a diverse display of Latino art.
The Festival ends at 9 pm.
Shaila Durcal will serve as the Parade's Celebrity Marshal, and 20 tickets to Durcal's upcoming concert in Pomona will be given away during the event.
Durcal is a platinum-selling singer and Latino Grammy nominee. Port of Long Beach Harbor Commissioner Mario Cordero, who was recently nominated to a Federal post by President Obama, will serve as Grand Marshal, and the Community Marshals are Jessica Quintana, Director of Centro CHA, and Tony Cruz, Long Beach Bicycle Ambassador.
The parade will feature more than 40 entries and more than 900 participants, including: Cabrillo High School Marching Band and Drill Team, Ballet Folklorico Dancers, Aztec Dancers, The Aquarium of the Pacific, the Port of Long Beach, Long Beach Fire and Police Departments and many others.
The festival will more than double in size compared to last year, taking up two entire City blocks with 57 vendors that will include: Latin American Art, Handmade Clothing & Jewelry, Arts & Crafts, Hats, Dance Instructors, Community Groups and delicious Latin American Cuisine.
Food vendors will include: Mexican, Honduran, Peruvian, Caribbean and Puerto Rican vendors serving up items such as Tacos, Burritos, Enchiladas, Sausages, Papusas, Aguas Frescas, Churros, Kettle Corn and more.
The Children's Area will include: face painting, a bounce house and an interactive arts & crafts area hosted by the Museum of Latin American Art and the Long Beach Arts Council.
Live entertainment will be featured on the Gaucho Grill Main Stage as well as a second performance area added to accommodate the incredible response from those interested in participating. Entertainment will include:
- El Presidente (Latin Hip Hop Artist)
- Tropicaleiza (Afro-Samba dance group)
- La Flor de Cachanilla (Ranchero singer)
- Club Guadalajara (Ballet Folklorico)
- Alma Latina (Salsa Dancers)
- Rubankete (Salsa Orchestra)
- Other entertainment/activities will include: Salsa lessons, Tango lessons, Mariachi and the hottest Latin music spun by DJ Bliss
