Long Beach First Serve Tennis Concession

Cathy Jacobson First Serve is owned and operated by Cathy Jacobson-Guzy. Cathy was a top player at the University of Pittsburgh. After graduating, from Pittsburgh with a B.A. in Communications with a minor in Physical Education, she moved to Southern California in 1983 and began teaching tennis at the Billie Jean King Tennis Center. After earning her U.S.P.T.A. Professional 1 certification she became a teaching-pro, then Head Pro and finally facility manager. She also worked as an assistant coach at Marina High School in Huntington Beach as well as Cypress College. In 1993-1994, she served as Head Coach at St. Joseph's High School in Lakewood, CA. Cathy has also helped in the development of many players on the Long Beach Wilson High School girls' varsity tennis teams.

 In 1993, on behalf of Long Beach Parks, Recreation and Marine, she established "First Serve Tennis, Inc." and became the Director of Tennis and exclusive operator of the Billie Jean King and El Dorado Park Tennis Centers. Cathy also manages Parks, Recreation and Marine's adult and youth tennis contract classes throughout Long Beach. She lives in Long Beach with her husband Stan Guzy and their two daughters, Samantha and Gabrielle.

The award will be given to Ms. Jacobson-Guzy at the SCTA Annual Meeting on Monday February 8 at 6 p.m. in the Straus Clubhouse at the Los Angeles Tennis Center on the UCLA campus.
