January 14, 2010 - In response to Tuesday’s 7.0 devastating earthquake in the country of Haiti, Mayor Bob Foster calls on the Long Beach community to help by sending monetary donations to the nonprofit Long Beach Cares.  Donations will be collected and then sent to the American Red Cross for Haitian relief efforts. 

“There is a dire need of monetary donations for Haiti relief so emergency supplies can be provided,” said Mayor Foster.  “Residents of Long Beach have always answered when called to action.  No amount is too small in this time of great need.”

There are an estimated three million people who have been impacted by the earthquake in Haiti.  According to the American Red Cross, priority needs are food, water, temporary shelter, medical services and emotional support.   

Donations for Haiti should be made out to Long Beach Cares, noting for the funds to go towards the Haiti Relief Fund.  Donations are tax deductible.  Checks can be mailed to:
