Partners of Parks Sets First "Clean Team" Day for MLK Park
Volunteers Needed for January 9th Event
Partners of Parks has set Saturday, January 9, 2010, for its very first park CLEAN TEAM Day at Martin Luther King Jr. Park, from 8:00 to 11:00 a.m. This kick-off event is one of many that Partners of Parks will schedule throughout Long Beach in 2010.
According to Board member and event chair, Lillian Parker, "It is important for all of us to participate and give back to the community. This is a fun way to do that and see immediate, positive results in our neighborhood."
CLEAN TEAM Day is being co-sponsored by 6th District Councilman Dee Andrews and the City of Long Beach Department of Parks, Recreation and Marine, along with help from the City's Weed & Seed Program.
“We are grateful for the support from Councilman Andrews encouraging residents to come out and help make this event a success,” says Parker. “We are actively recruiting volunteers to help make MLK Park clean and safe for all of us.”
Participating volunteers will receive a special Partners of Parks CLEAN TEAM t-shirt as well as automatic sign-up for Disneyland's “Give a Day, Get a Day” ticket program. Additionally, Service Learning Hours are available to students. Martin Luther King Jr. Park is located at 1901 Lemon Avenue, Long Beach. Check in time is 7:45 a.m. and all cleaning supplies and refreshments will be provided.
Partners of Parks’ mission is to support the development, maintenance, and enhancement of park assets and community recreation programs in Long Beach. For more information, go to the website at www.partnersofparks.org.
