New Grocery Store Opens in North Long Beach
A long line of shoppers waited for over an hour for the doors to open at the Grand Opening of the new Big Saver Foods grocery store at 1313 E. Artesia Boulevard, near Orange Avenue, in North Long Beach.

In addition to eager shoppers, the event featured Vice Mayor Val Lerch, Councilmember for the 9th District and Mayor Bob Foster as the ribbon cutting ceremony signified the importance of the store to the community.

Though Redevelopment is very active in the 9th District, Big Saver was built without use of redevelopment funds.  The store is completely full service, the only one of it's kind in the north-west section of the 9th District.  In addition to Big Saver residents of the 9th District can also shop at Food-4-Less, a bag-your-own large market with two locations in North Long Beach, Cherry and 68th Street and at South and Cherry.
