Long Beach City College to Host Volunteer Village Event

LBCC will help match student and community volunteers with area non-profits who need assistance

LONG BEACH, CA – Volunteer Village, the one stop shopping event for matching potential volunteers with nonprofit and public agencies will be taking place on Wednesday, October 14, 2009 at the Liberal Arts Campus (LAC) of  Long Beach City College for the first time.

Anyone – including LBCC students and staff – with an interest in volunteering for a local non-profit group is invited to attend the 6th annual event from 12 noon to 3 p.m. and 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the LAC, 4901 East Carson Street in Long Beach. “Bringing Volunteers and Nonprofits Together for that Perfect Match” is the theme for this year’s Volunteer Village.

The Volunteer Village event was moved to LBCC to help connect students with local agencies and afford the general public greater access to more agencies in one location.

Greater Long Beach community agencies will have representatives available to talk with interested volunteers about their organizations and the type of volunteer support they seek. Attendees of all ages may explore how their unique skills, abilities, and passions match the needs of the participating organizations. Some of  this year’s participating agencies will include Retired and Senior Volunteer Program, Museum of Latin American Art, Long Beach AIDS Foundation, California Families in Focus, and a number of  organizations representing human services, the environment, the arts, education, faith-based and city agencies.

The event is free to the public and easily accessible from the designated parking lots at the corner of East Carson Street and Clark Ave. Parking cost is $1.

Volunteer Village is organized by the Greater Long Beach Directors of Volunteers (GLBDoV), an affinity group convened by the Long Beach Nonprofit Partnership. Event co-sponsors are Long Beach Nonprofit Partnership and Viking Volunteer Center, Long Beach City College.
