Coyotes have always been a part of our local environment, living in and around flood control areas, wetlands, nature centers and other open spaces. Most of the time, coyotes shy away from populated areas: however if tempted by easy food sources, they can be drawn into neighborhoods. Fortunately, following a few simple guidelines will discourage coyotes from staying your neighborhood:
- Keep Trashcans covered at all times
- Never leave pet food outside
- Pick up fallen fruit from fruit trees
- Keep small pets inside, especially cats and dogs at dawn and dusk
- Clear brush from around the house
- Never leave small children unsupervised outside
