Kiwanis Club of Bixby Knolls-North Long Beach Honor Volunteers

On Saturday December 6, 2008, the Kiwanis Club of Bixby Knolls/North Long Beach sponsored a dedication ceremony for long time North Long Beach community activist Martha "Mike" Croft, who passed away last year.

The Kiwanis Club purchased a plaque in Mike’s memory, which has been affixed to the recreation center at Houghton Park above a memorial garden in her honor. Approximately thirty North Long Beach leaders attended the event, including Vice Mayor Val Lerch who gave the dedication speech.

The commemorative also serves as a tribute to the countless volunteers inspired by Mike, suggested in the wording on the plaque:

In Memory of and With Grateful Appreciation to

Martha "Mike" Croft
1914 - 2007

For Her Decades of Dedicated Volunteer Work
In North Long Beach
And to the Many People She Inspired
Who Continue to Embody the Spirit
