5th District Youth Council Starts Tree Inventory on May 31st
Councilwoman Gerrie Schipske cordially invites all youth in Long Beach to participate in the first tree inventory, an exciting and innovative environmental project with the 5th District Youth Council on Saturday, May 31, 2008 at 11 a.m. at Wardlow Park on 3457 Stanbridge Avenue.

In collaboration with the City’s Department of Parks, Recreation and Marine and local youth organization, the Park Tree Inventory program will help youth learn how to identify the species, sizes and locations of our park trees.

"We hope to educate youth about the vital role that trees play in our urban environment," Schipske said. "We hope to instill in them the importance of civic engagement and assist in making Long Beach a ‘Green City’ in a variety of ways."

A full inventory of our parks trees has never been done before, and this will help maintain a healthy urban forest, assist with tree maintenance and help us identify locations where additional trees can be planted.

For more information or to RSVP for this event, please contact the Office of Councilwoman Gerrie Schipske at 562-570-6932 or district5@longbeach.gov.
