Municipal Band Celebrates 99 Years!
Larry Curtis Long Beach Municipal Band Celebrates 99th Year so come "Jump on the Bandwagon!"

"Jump On the Bandwagon" this summer with Long Beach's favorite outdoor party, concerts with the world famous Long Beach Municipal Band.  Now in its 99th year of continuous service to the citizens of Long Beach, each FREE concert presents the music of America: classical and pop favorites, extraordinary jazz, movie music, Broadway show tunes, and Big Band salutes. To cap off several performances, concert audiences will be treated to selections from special vocalists – accompanied by the Long Beach Municipal Band's Studio Band. What you'll want to do is bring your blanket or low-profile beach chairs, a delicious summer picnic, the kids, the family pet, and friends.  Enjoy a truly unique Long Beach experience!  All concerts start at 6:30 pm. 

The Long Beach Municipal Band is brought to the community by the Long Beach Parks, Recreation and Marine Department and Partners of Parks. The Long Beach Municipal Band is the longest running, municipally supported band in the country. These free concerts provide a chance for neighbors and families to gather outdoors for a relaxing evening of picnicking, entertainment and music.

In 1909 the community of Long Beach officially commissioned its professional Municipal Band.  Join us this week to celebrate a unique and remarkable music ensemble.  Their mission was to be the finest in the nation; come to a concert and see how they made out!  Vocalist Barbara Morrison returns to the stage to kick off our summer with style and grace.

Week 2, July 1 - 3 (No concert on Friday, July 4)

The military bands of America are the finest in the world.  We salute these well-trained musical ambassadors and show our gratitude to military service men and women with an inspired concert of patriotic favorites.  Guest singing sensation Ginger Berglund joins the studio band in this spirited evening.

Week 3, July 9 - 11 and 13 (No concert on Tuesday, July 8)

Dixieland has its roots in the Crescent City, New Orleans.  Expect a lot of smiles and toe tapping as you join us on a musical journey into the rich history of American jazz. Crowd favorite Tony Galla takes the microphone along with the studio band to close a festive evening.

Sounds like some unfamiliar language, but it’s as American as apple pie.  Bring your "doggie" and come listen to the sounds of the old west as portrayed in film, musicals and song.  We welcome the return of singing stylist Carol Welsman to provide the grand finale.

The driving rhythms and romantic melodies of Latin music have influenced American composers for generations.  Be prepared with your best "Ole!" and don’t forget your sombrero. Tonight, the Studio Ensemble is our featured artist for this all instrumental evening.

The band music of Europe is quite unique to each country.  We make quick visits to as many as possible during this fun-filled evening.  In how many languages can you say, "Great Concert"?  Our Italian crooner, Tony Galla, returns to thrill young and old alike.  Welcome back Tony!

Names like Goodman, Dorsey, Ellington, and Miller can only mean one of your favorite concerts of the summer.  Enjoy good music, good friendship and perhaps a little nostalgia as we relax to the music of the Swing era.  We move into high gear with the return of the great Barbara Morrison.

When you are an instrumentalist in a Broadway musical you will be banished to "the pit" to be heard but not seen.  For this final concert of summer we’re bringing the musicians out into the open so you can see, hear, and appreciate their wonderful artistic talents.  Joining the ensemble will be the dynamic singing star Jeanelle Sadler.
