NAACP Sponsors 5th District Community Baby Shower
Councilwoman Gerrie Schipske would like to thank the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP), Long Beach Chapter, for its generous donation to the 5th District Community Baby Shower.

The Community Baby Shower is program that creates and provides a "basic going-home newborn kit" for low-income mothers to use after they give birth in local hospitals.

The Long Beach NAACP 'Women in the NAACP' (WIN) program strives to enhance the leadership role of women, serve as an advocacy vehicle for social, economical, political, educational, and health and welfare issues affecting women and advocate for the positive development of children.

"This truly was a communitywide effort and I appreciate all the support that has given.  Long Beach will be a better home for a young child because of the efforts that have been made."

Other donors include the Office of Long Beach Police Chief Anthony Batts, Friends of the Long Beach Fire Department, Long Beach Little Ones, Binky Patrol of North Long Beach Chapter, St. May's Hospital, City of Long Beach staff members, residents of Long Beach and Cerritos and many more.

Donations are being accepted through the end of the week (May 9).  You can also help make the Community Baby Shower a success in the following ways:

  • Donate any baby items for the kits: diapers, diaper bags, baby clothes, blankets, etc. Please drop off donations at the Office of Councilwoman Gerrie Schipske’s Neighborhood Office at 2760 Studebaker Road between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m., Monday through Friday, before May 9, 2008.
  • Make a tax-deductible donation to Long Beach Cares, a non-profit organization that formed to raise money to help local public health programs.
