In celebration of the Long Beach Search and Rescue Unit's 45th Anniversary, the Unit will be holding an open house with special presentations and awards. The event will begin at 11 a.m. on Saturday, September 15th.
During the past 45 years, the members of the Unit have volunteered over 733,256 hours of community service.
The Long Beach Search and Rescue Unit, established in 1962, is a Specialist Explorer Post of the Long Beach Area Council of the Boy Scouts of America. Specializing in urban heavy rescue, the organization encourages explorers to look to career possibilities in the law enforcement, fire protection, and emergency medical service fields.
The facility is located at 2247 Argonne Ave. It is adjacent to the Long Beach Fire Department Training Center and behind Fire Station 17 at Stearns Park
